Here are Apple’s new ads for the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2

Apple just released not one, not two but three new ads for its new devices — the iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch Series 2. They all tout new features, such as water resistance, low light camera performance and new fitness features. Let’s start with my favorite one. In “Midnight”, a young man goes for a night ride on his skateboard. He rides in the suburbs, sees a deer (!) at… Read More

Apple debuts cinematic iPhone 7, Apple Watch Series 2 commercials

Following that black and white iPhone 7 teaser video from last week, Apple has launched a new series of commercials promoting the iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch Series 2 and each one is, in true Apple tradition, a tiny work of art.  The first is titled "Midnight," and it takes us on a trip with a skateboarder who has an eye for night photography. Designed to show off the iPhone 7 's low-light powers, the one-minute mini movie is oddly intimate, even while touting the most talked about technology product on the planet.  SEE ALSO: iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: the review Next there is "Morning Ride," a 30-second dip into the world of a cyclist who, suddenly called by nature's pull, decides to emerge from his garage and go for a ride. The spot ends on an epic frame of storm clouds gathering in front of the biker. The message: Yes, the newly water-resistant iPhone 7 can survive the looming downpour.  Read more... 'Sully' wins again, but 'Blair Witch' is already a box office moneymaker

Sully will close its second week in release with a return trip to the top spot in the box office, but that's not necessarily bad news for newcomer Blair Witch . The 17-years-later sequel — let's just forget Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows ever existed — copies the 1999 original's found-footage format and low-budget production. It follows a group of unsuspecting victims as they search for answers in the same creepy forest setting as the first movie.  SEE ALSO: 'Blair Witch' is a missed opportunity that gets lost in the woods The $5 million-budgeted feature from director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett — the same duo behind the Blair Witch Project -inspired V/H/S movies — earned an estimated $9.7 million at the domestic box office. Tom Brady's son dabbed when he caught a touchdown pass from dad

The age-old practice of playing catch with dad takes on a different meaning when you're John Brady, the son of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. SEE ALSO: Lifelike Tom Brady mask is straight out of Roger Goodell's fever dreams The senior Brady is currently suspended from professional football and not allowed to visit team facilities. But that didn't stop father and son from visiting the University of Michigan — Tom's alma mater — to toss the pigskin around on a real football field. When the 9-year-old Brady ran to the end zone and snatched his dad's lobbed pass out of the air, he did what any self-respecting NFL player would do: he celebrated. Read more... 'Overwatch' hack uses turntables to control musical hero Lúcio

Let's all take a moment to thank YouTuber WhyBeAre for figuring out how to control Overwatch 's musical support hero Lúcio with the faux-turntables from Activision's DJ Hero series. In the video above, WhyBeAre demonstrates his ingenious feat of keybinding. One turntable handles Lúcio's forward/backward movement and the other controls his turning.  It's very old-school Doom -style gaming, with no jump or vertical aim... but this is Lúcio. Shooting well doesn't really matter so much. Just point, pull the trigger and accept any points you reserve as a blessing from the universe. Humpback whale scares the crap out of a few dudes on a peaceful fishing trip

Humpback whales are actually just master pranksters. Trevor Ryan was fishing off the coast of Langara Island, in British Columbia, Canada, on Sept. 3 with his father and a tour guide when a humpback whale suddenly breached the surface just a few feet from their boat.  "Holy Christ," one man says after the whale jumps out of the water. Thankfully, the whale was far enough away so that the boat did not capsize, and after showing off its tail, the animal swam under the boat and back into the deep.  Add-on turns VR motorcycling into a realistic race into the future Watch Miley Cyrus give Jimmy Fallon a very awkward yoga lesson Twist and shout to ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ in 8-bit graphics Pentatonix and Dolly Parton team up for a slick a cappella version of 'Jolene' Read more... 20 wines you need to drink this fall

Like everything else in the summer, wine drinking is easy. And the answer to every question, at least the wine-related ones, might as well be rosé . But now that fall is here, it’s time to get to more serious drinking. It turns out that cooler weather does indeed translate into bigger wine sales. “People dig deeper and buy more serious [read: expensive] wines in the fall and early winter,” noted Robert Bohr, co-owner of Charlie Bird in New York. He’s one of seven of the country’s best sommeliers from around the country who told us what we should be drinking this fall. At least one, Chicago’s Ryan Arnold, surprised us. One of his wines is Italian rosé. “It’s no longer seasonal,” he declared. “Rosé is for all year long.”   Read more... More about Ros , Wines , Wine , and Lifestyle

1930s Nazi rallies featured an imposing 'cathedral of light'

1937 Image: ullstein bild/ullstein bild via Getty Images Following Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party’s seizure of power in Germany in 1933, they began staging massive and intimidating annual rallies in Nuremberg. The Nuremberg Rallies were held each September at specially designed assembly grounds which spanned 11 square kilometers The rallies, which were documented in Leni Riefenstahl’s propaganda films, including Triumph of the Will , were meant as displays of unity, strength and German commitment to the Nazi cause. Though the hundreds of thousands of party loyalists assembled on the grounds made for a fearsome sight, one of the most spectacular elements of the rallies was architect Albert Speer's "cathedral of light." Good news, stoners: Study links daily marijuana use to lower BMI

People who smoke marijuana daily may be slimmer than those who don't use the drug, a new study suggests. Researchers found that people in the study who used marijuana daily had about a 3 percent lower BMI (body mass index), on average, than those who did not use marijuana at all. "There is a popular belief that people who consume marijuana have the munchies, and so [they] are going to eat a lot and gain weight, and we found that it is not necessarily the case," said lead study author Isabelle C. Beulaygue, a research support specialist in interventional radiology at the University of Miami. [ Marijuana Could Treat These 5 Conditions ] Read more...
